The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has announced vacancies for the Librarian position under the Ministerial and Isolated Categories for 2025. The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Librarian Exam syllabus includes General Awareness, Reasoning Ability, and Library Science. Railway Librarian Exam Pattern

The selection process for the RRB Librarian position typically consists of the following stages:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)
    • Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)
    • Total Marks: 100
    • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwD candidates)
    • Sections:
      • General Awareness and General Science: 20 Marks
      • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 15 Marks
      • Mathematics: 15 Marks
      • Professional Knowledge (Library Science): 50 Marks
  2. Document Verification and Medical Examination
    • Candidates shortlisted after the CBT must undergo document verification and a medical fitness test.

RRB Librarian syllabus

a. Mathematics:

Number Systems, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM and HCF, Ratio and Proportions, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern.

b. General Intelligence and Reasoning:

Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement- Arguments and Assumptions etc.

c. General Awareness:

Knowledge of Current Affairs, Indian Geography, Culture and History of India including freedom movement, Indian Polity and Constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General scientific and technological developments etc.

d. General Science: Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences (up to 10th standard CBSE syllabus).

    • Structure and Attributes
    • Modes of formation of subjects
    • Different types of subjects
    • Universe of subjects as mapped in different schemes of Classification

  2. Bibliographic description
    • Catalog purpose, structure, and types
    • Physical forms including OPAC filing rules
    • Normative principles of cataloging
    • Overview of principles of practice in document description
    • Current trends in standardization, description, and exchange
    • Standard course of cataloging

  3. Method of knowledge organization
    • General knowledge of the world and India
    • General theory of Library classification
    • Normative principles of classification and their applications
    • Species of Library classification
    • Standard schemes of classification and their features (CC, EDC, UDC)
    • Notation: Need, functions, characteristics
    • Design and development of schemes of library classification
    • Standard subdivision index
    • Trends in Library classification

  4. Subject Classification
    • Educational psychology
    • Principles of subject classification
      No. of Questions: 8 to 12
