Rajasthan Librarian Grade III Exam Pattern and Syllabus
Scheme and syllabus of competitive examination for the post of Librarian Grade-III:
- The examination shall carry 400 marks.
- There will be two papers. Both papers shall be of 200 marks each.
Paper-I:
- The question paper will carry a maximum of 200 marks.
- Duration of the question paper will be 2:00 hours.
- The question paper will carry 100 questions of multiple choice.
- Negative marking shall be applicable in the evaluation of answers. For every wrong answer, one-third of the marks prescribed for that particular question shall be deducted.
Explanation: Wrong answer shall mean an incorrect answer or multiple answers.
5. The minimum qualifying marks shall be 40%. Provided that the percentage fixed as above shall be relaxed by 5% for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
6. Paper shall include the following subjects:
(i) Geographical, Historical, Cultural, and General Knowledge of Rajasthan.
(ii) Current Affairs of Rajasthan.
(iii) General Knowledge of World and India.
(iv) Educational Psychology.
Syllabus and Scope of Papers:
The syllabus and scope of the paper for the examination will be as prescribed by the Commission / Rajasthan Staff Selection Board/Appointing Authority, as the case may be from time to time and will be intimated to the candidates within the stipulated time in the manner as the Commission / Rajasthan Staff Selection Board/Appointing Authority, as the case may be, deems fit.
Paper-II
- The question paper will carry a maximum of 200 marks.
- Duration of the question paper will be 2 hours.
- The question paper will carry 100 multiple-choice questions.
- Negative marking shall be applicable in the evaluation of answers. For every wrong answer, one-third of the marks prescribed for that particular question shall be deducted.

II. Bibliographic description:
- Catalog purpose, structure, and types, physical forms including OPAC filling rules.
- Normative principles of cataloging.
- Overview of principles of practice in document description.
- Current trends in standardization, description, and exchange.
- Standard code of cataloging.
III. Methods of knowledge organization:
- General theory of library classification.
- Normative principles of classification and their applications.
- Species of library classification.
- Standard schemes of classification and their features: CC, DDC, UDC.
- Notation: Need, functions, characteristics.
- Design and development of Schemes of library classification, Standard subdivision index, Trends in library classification.
IV. Subject Classification
- Principles of subject classification.
- Subject heading lists and their features.
Syllabus and Scope of Papers:
The syllabus and scope of papers for the examination will be as prescribed by the Commission/Rajasthan Staff Selection Board/Appointing Authority, as the case may be from time to time and will be intimated to the candidates within the stipulated time in the manner as the Commission/Rajasthan Staff Selection Board/Appointing Authority, as the case may be, deems fit.
- Each question has five options marked as A, B, C, D, E. You have to darken only one circle (bubble) indicating the correct answer on the Answer Sheet using a BLUE BALLPOINT PEN.
- It is mandatory to fill only one of the options for each question.
- If you are not attempting a question, you have to darken the circle ‘E’. If none of the five circles is darkened, one-third (1/3) of the marks of that question shall be deducted.
- After solving the question paper, candidates must ascertain that they have darkened one of the circles (bubbles) for each question. Extra time of 10 minutes beyond the scheduled time is provided for this purpose.
- If a candidate does not follow these instructions, their answers may be rejected.
