IIT BHU Junior Library Superintendent Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The recruitment process consists of two stages:

  1. Written Test (Stage-I)
  2. Skill Test (Stage-II)

Written Test (Stage-I)

  • Format: Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ)
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Sections:
    • Section A: 60 questions related to Library Science
    • Section B: 40 questions from General Knowledge, Aptitude, Current Affairs, General Arithmetic, etc.
  • Marking Scheme:
    • Correct Answer: +2 marks
    • Wrong Answer: -0.5 marks
    • Un-attempted Question: 0 marks
  • Cut-off: Minimum 40% required to qualify for Stage-II (Skill Test).
  • Shortlisting for Stage-II:
    • A list of candidates (up to seven times the total number of posts) will be prepared based on performance in the Written Test.
    • Candidates securing the same marks as the last shortlisted candidate will also be included.

Skill Test (Stage-II)

  • Nature: Qualifying test
  • Minimum Score to Qualify: 40%
  • Only those who qualify in the Skill Test will be considered for the final selection.

Final Selection Weightage

  • Written Test (Stage-I): 40% weightage
  • Skill Test (Stage-II): 60% weightage
  • A composite merit list will be prepared based on these weights.

Additional Notes

  • The Question Booklets and OMR Sheets will be returned from candidates after the exam.

    • Library Personnel and Library Committee

    • Library Finance and Budget
    • Human Resource Management
    • Principles of Library Management
    • Library Organization and Structure
    • Use and Maintenance of Libraries:
      • Circulation, Maintenance, Shelving, Stock Verification
      • Binding and Preservation, Weeding Out, etc.
  3. Knowledge Organization:
    • Library Classification and Cataloguing:
      • Canons and Principles
      • Classification Schemes: DDC, CC, UDC
      • Cataloguing Codes: CCC, AACR
      • Standards: ISBD, MARC, CCF, ISBN, ISSN, etc.
  4. Reference and Information Sources and Services:
    • Types of Information Resources
    • Bibliography and Reference Sources
    • Sources of Information: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary; Digital Documents
    • Information Services: e-Resources, Consortia (eShodhsindhu, Shodhganga, IDR)
    • Abstracting and Indexing Services
    • Computer-based Information Services: CAS, SDI
    • Information Retrieval
  5. Information Storage and Retrieval:
    • Systems: Sears List, PRECIS, POPSI, KWIC, etc.
    • Vocabulary Control
    • Search Strategies
    • Evaluation of Information Retrieval Systems
  6. Information Technology and ICT Trends in Libraries:
    • Generations and Classification of Computers
    • Computer Memory and Architecture
    • I/O Devices, Programming Languages, Operating Systems, and Application Software
    • Library Automation and Software Packages

    • Networks: DELNET, NICNET, etc.
    • National and International Information Systems: NASSDOC, NISCAIR, DESIDOC
