The test will be modeled after the National Eligibility Test (NET) or the Bihar Eligibility Test (BET).
BET History and Pattern
- BET was last conducted in 2002.
- The new test follows the University Grants Commission (UGC) decision, making a PhD optional for assistant professor appointments, with NET, SET, and SLET as minimum criteria.
Meeting with Education Minister
- Bihar State Higher Education Council (BSHEC) vice-chairman Kameshwar Jha met with education minister Sunil Kumar to discuss the implementation of the state-level eligibility test and other higher education issues.
Application of BET
- BET will be mandatory for candidates applying for the next Bihar State University Service Commission advertisement.
- The commission is currently interviewing candidates for 4,638 assistant professor posts.
Combined PhD Admission Test
- BSHEC plans to conduct a state-level combined PhD admission test across various subjects for all state universities.
- The test will rotate annually among the universities, with Patna University likely to conduct the first test.
- The results will be based on university-wise and subject-wise seat availability and reservation rosters.
