Role Overview: The Vikram Sarabhai Library at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) is seeking a Library Professional Assistant. The candidate will be responsible for various domains, including procurement, user orientation, reference services, library technology, and additional duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement of Learning Materials:
- Knowledge of Library Management Systems (LMS).
- Tasks include checking for duplicates, selecting vendors, negotiating, ordering, invoicing, cataloguing, classification, and other technical processes.
- Understanding online procurement, copyright, open access, access rights, and license agreements.
- Maintenance of inventory, registers, and statistics.
- User Orientation and Awareness:
- Assisting users in accessing library resources and services.
- Conducting training sessions on library resource awareness.
- Managing displays and promotional materials.
- Arranging new arrivals and preparing guidelines for using library facilities.
- Collecting user feedback and providing answers to queries.
- Preparing reading lists and bibliographies.
- Reference and Circulation Service:
- Managing the circulation counter, including membership, circulation, reminders, overdue charges, and clearances.
- Handling reference queries both online and offline.
- Keeping records of transactions and queries.
- Using online and offline databases/e-resources for research queries.
- Knowledge of statistical, citation, and reference management tools.
- Library Technology:
- Proficient with library-related technology, including software and hardware.
- Managing IT-based services such as remote access, website, institutional repository, electronic resource management systems (ERMS), discovery services, mobile apps, virtual reality apps, RFID, etc.
- Managing IT equipment like RFID, assistive technologies, display screens, videowalls, computers, printers, and 3D printers.
- Other Duties:
- Additional tasks assigned by the reporting officer.
- Working in shifts as the library operates round the clock and throughout the year.
- Weekly holidays on a rotational basis.
Reporting:
- Reports to the Assistant Librarian or other senior functionaries.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- A master’s degree in Library & Information Science (MLISc) with a minimum of 60% marks.
- At least two years of relevant experience.
- Age limit: Maximum 30 years as of the last date of application, with age relaxation as per Government of India rules. An additional five years of age relaxation is given to women candidates.
Salary and Allowances:
- The position offers a tenure-based scaled contract for three years, extendable as needed.
- The selected candidate will be placed in Pay Level 05 under the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix.
- Other benefits are provided at par with permanent employees.
