What is ABC (Academic Bank of Credits) ID

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID is a 12-digit unique identification number assigned to students in India under the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system, enabling them to track and manage their academic credits across various higher education institutions.

With the ABC ID, students can accumulate credits from previous learning experiences, transfer them to other institutions, and redeem them when needed. The ID also stores important details such as degrees, diplomas, certificates, training records, and co-curricular achievements. It is essential for many admission processes.

The ABC system is an initiative by the Ministry of Education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It is designed to facilitate the seamless transfer of academic credits earned by students across different higher education institutions in India.

Key Features of the ABC ID

  1. Credit Accumulation: Students can accumulate academic credits earned from various recognized higher education institutions. These credits can be stored in their ABC account.
  2. Credit Transfer: The ABC system allows students to transfer credits between institutions, making it easier to switch courses or universities without losing the credits they have already earned.
  3. Multiple Exits and Entries: The system supports multiple entry and exit points in academic programs, allowing students to take breaks in their education and resume later, using the credits they have previously earned.
  4. Flexible Learning: Students can choose a variety of courses from different institutions, encouraging interdisciplinary learning.
  5. Tracking and Verification: The ABC ID helps in tracking and verifying a student’s academic progress and credentials throughout their educational journey.
