It was originally called the Madras Public Libraries Act, 1948. The library cess was 10% of the property tax.

2. Andhra Pradesh Public Libraries Act, 1960

3. Karnataka Public Libraries Act, 1965
It was originally called the Mysore Public Libraries Act, of 1965. The Act mandated the levy of a library cess of 6% on land, building, vehicle, and profession taxes
