IFLA WLIC 2025: Theme, Host City, Date SIgnificance, & Importance

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) annually puts on the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2025. This event gets library and information experts worldwide to talk, share what works best, and look into the newest changes in libraries and information science. The WLIC allows people to meet others in their field, grow in their jobs, and swap ideas and know-how with each other.

The theme of IFLA WLIC 2023: Let’s work together, Let’s Library

IFLA WLIC Host City: Astana Kazakhstan, will welcome the 2025 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC).

IFLA WLIC Host Dates: World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) from host from 18-22, August 2025.

Significance of WLIC: Central Asia will host this gathering for the first time showing IFLA’s dedication to bringing together librarians from around the world.

Opportunities in Astana: The Congress in Astana will offer participants the chance to explore a unique region with a rich cultural history, enhancing their professional knowledge.

Support and Vision: IFLA President Vicki McDonald emphasized the importance of the Congress as a unifying space for library professionals and praised Kazakhstan’s bid and its ambitious vision for the event and its long-term impact.

WLIC Local Impact: Hosting the WLIC aims to elevate the professional standards of local librarians, improve the perception of the library profession in society, and strengthen Kazakhstan and Central Asia’s role in the international library community.

Cultural Exchange: The event will also provide an opportunity for foreign participants to learn about Kazakhstan’s rich history, cultural traditions, and politics, with a warm welcome anticipated for all attendees.
